We don't take shortcuts in the quality of care that we provide to our horses. All of our horses are current with the recommended injections for our area, they are wormed on a rotation schedule and we use a barefoot farrier. We pride ourselves in feeding high quality hays, grains, and supplements to give the colts and fillies the best start in life possible. We also imprint train and use John Lyon's and Parelli methods to teach age appropriate skills to our horses. We stable overnight when the weather necessitates and spend time with the horses for training purposes, but for the vast majority of the time the horses are free to run, play, and socialize with their own kind.

Our passion is in breeding Colored Friesian Sporthorses that are competitive and beautiful but also gentle and calm. Our foals are 50% Friesian with the color coming from the addition of American Saddlebred and/or Dutch Warmblood.

At Friesians In Color we treasure the Saddlebred part of our horses as they provide their offspring with so much more than color. We are originally from England and the American Saddlebred may well be "America's best kept secret." In truth their fantasy-style appearance leaps out at you, but a little known secret is that the ultimate show horse has a lot more than looks in his favor. They are intelligent, have plenty of commonsense, love to interact with people and are easy to train; they have been used for years in the show world (Flicka, Mr Ed, Fury). They are also incredibly athletic and supple with inbuilt stamina, and have been used to represent the USA in dressage, show jumping, eventing, driving and endurance (an ASB gelding was the world endurance champion for three years running).

We offer our horses for sale to "good homes only" at very reasonable and honest prices. We work to keep our prices reasonable because of our dedication to breeding these amazing horses, because we are able to use our own resources, and for the wonderful friendships that we have developed with horse lovers all over North America through this enterprise. We use professionals as appropriate but try to do as much ourselves as possible to keep the prices down. We take care of the horses ourselves, take our own pictures, we created and maintain this website.

Friesians in Color was started by Karen J. Fish, MS, trained as a mental health therapist and working with children and teenagers who are at risk. She found horses to be her passion, release and joy. Karen recently became a stay home mum and now finds more time to spend with the horses. She has focused on a foal training program with the hope that each foal that leaves will have a foundation that will go with them whether they find themselves. Karen's father Michael A. Fish joined the business with his purchase of the Friesian stallion, Ramses v.L. He can often be seen driving Ramses around the local neighborhood. Michael works in the nuclear energy industry and plans to retire in a couple of years and keep busy and energized with the horses.

Our breeds combine the legendary Friesian, the horse with the majestic appearance, high stepping powerful gaits, sleek black coat and personable nature with the "Peacock" of the horse world, the stunningly beautiful, athletic and elegant American Saddlebred. Recently we has also combined blood from the ultimate athlete the Dutch Warmblood into some of the foals. We add a splash of color and we dare to dream.
